Ariège is easily accessible by air (Toulouse, Carcassonne, Pau airports). A car is essential to explore the region, as public transport is very limited.

• Follow signs for Toulouse ring road.
• Take direction Narbonne – Tarbes until exit 25.
• Continue on A64 motorway towards Tarbes for about 60 km until exit 20.
• Speed cameras between exits 21 and 20 (limit 130 km/h).
• Exit 20 → follow Saint-Girons (28 km).
• Between exit 20 and Saint-Girons: frequent speed controls in villages.
• In Saint-Girons → direction Guzet / Seix / Oust.
• In Oust → follow Ercé (24 km from Saint-Girons).
• Entering Ercé: garage and small supermarket on your right.
• Shortly after: turn left towards Hameau de Cominac up to the church.
• Drive up the mountain road (hairpin bends).
• At two large square bins (on the left) → turn right: “Gîte Rural Le Pelioou – La Souleilo”.
• Drive 1 km up to the small chalet with balcony (La Souleilo).
• The entrance to Pelioou and Gustou is directly opposite.
• Pass through the pivoting livestock gate and continue up to the cottage.
Two options:
1) Fastest route (via Toulouse)
• A61 → Toulouse → A64 → exit 20 → follow Toulouse directions above.
2) Most scenic route (via Mirepoix & Mas-d’Azil)
• From the airport, take D119 towards Mirepoix (beautiful medieval town – worth a short stop).
• Continue towards Mas-d’Azil (secondary roads – map recommended).
• The road passes through a spectacular cave.
• Several good restaurants in the area.
• Rejoin Saint-Girons → then follow Toulouse/Ercé route above.
Total distance Carcassonne → Pelioou: 155 km (~1h40).
• Leave airport → direction Toulouse.
• Join A64 → exit 20.
• Then follow Saint-Girons → Oust → Ercé.
A car is essential: there is no direct train or bus service to Ercé.
Car rental available at all airports: Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Avis…
Average weekly rates: €130 to €200 depending on season.
Air France / British Airways: regular flights to Toulouse (higher fares, standard service).
Ryanair: flights to Carcassonne from Bournemouth, Brussels, Cork, Dublin, Glasgow, Leeds, East Midlands, Liverpool, London Stansted, Shannon.
Very small airport but highly competitive prices.
Hertz often offers preferential rates for Ryanair passengers.
EasyJet: flights from London Gatwick, Paris Orly, Bristol, Madrid → Toulouse.
